The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, holding one of the largest collections in the world, has embarked upon a series of renovations, new exhibit development and implementation, and program development that will transform the visitor experience at our nearly 100 year-old institution. This major capital project (The Museum Project) will culminate in the opening of five permanent exhibits by 2012, in addition to a handful of smaller, innovative exhibits. We are seeking an accomplished Project Manager to join our dynamic team of exhibit professionals, curators, and educators working towards the realization of this transformation. The position is a full time position, with benefits, that will terminate with the conclusion of the Museum Project in mid-2012.

The Project Manager is responsible for managing the planning, development, production and installation of museum exhibits and related projects funded by the Museum Project capital program. S/he manages budgets, schedules, and complex teams of Museum staff and contractors, overseeing the work of museum personnel and consultants in the development and delivery of exemplary exhibits, as assigned. S/he is responsible for the oversight of the exhibition development process, managing the day-to-day advancement of assigned projects, utilizing Exhibits Department processes and best practices, coordinating the work of outside contractors and fabricators involved in exhibit design and production to ensure the successful and timely completion of all assigned projects, and reinforcing the museum's standards for excellence. While general familiarity with all phases of exhibit planning and development from conceptualization through opening is important, the Project Manager's core responsibilities will generally fall within the schematic design through exhibit opening phases.

Reporting to the Director of Exhibits, the Project Manager serves as a key member of the Exhibits Department projects team and works closely with the Museum leadership, Construction Project Manager, Chief Registrar, colleagues within the Education and Exhibits Division and, curators, building operations staff, and others in coordinating the preparation and production of exhibits.

This position has the following requirements:
B.A. or advanced degree in architecture, art or other museum related field preferred
5-10 years of relevant exhibit experience
Extensive experience dealing with later phases of exhibit design, bidding, production and installation
Detail oriented, with excellent organization skills
Excellent problem solving skills
Ability to work independently with little supervision as well as in a team environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
