Andrew Adelman

The Good Government Award for 2002 is given to Andrew Adelman, General Manager of the City of Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety.
We created this award to acknowledge Andrew and his team for demonstrating that positive, revolutionary change can occur in government, despite the thickest of bureaucracies. They have created a new culture of service. They are doing more with less, and asserting a positive leadership role in this significant area of public policy. The transformation of the Los Angeles Building and Safety Department that Andrew has directed has been nothing short of miraculous. We hope that by our recognition, the City of Los Angeles will be able to apply some of the lessons learned in your efforts to other areas of City Governance.
